Saturday Sketch – Sketch #13 & DT call

Over on Sketch Saturday, Jo has produced another wonderful sketch to use.  This week is slightly different as Jo has a Design Time call & to be in with a chance, we’re asked to make 2 cards using the sketch, one of which has to Christmas themed.

This is the sketch we’re working with:

For my 1st card, I used some Black & White papers from DCWV’s Mini Stack, along with Silver Mirri Card (although in looks black in the picture) and some Silver Matt Star embossed card.  The main image is “Flower Power” by Rubber Stampede & the quote is one from Whispers.

My 2nd card uses papers from DCWV’s “Winter” scrapbook in a kit pad & some Silver Mirri Card.  The stamped Snowman image comes from “Fun Christmas” by See-D’s & the image is coloured in using Marvy Le Plume pens in Salvia Blue, Prussian Blue & Orange.

Distress Ink Challenge

Over on a yahoo group I belong to we were given a challenge to make something using Distress Inks.  This is my piece!

I used Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade & Fired Brick Distress Ink Pads & blended the colours so they graduated.  I then over stamped using a script Rubber Stamp in Fired Brick & removed some of the colour by dabbing over using my ink blending tool.  I then used one of my brand new Squiggly Ink Minis.  Once dry, I then filled in the middle of the flowers using an Inkessentials White Opaque pen.

PaperArtsy is one of my favourite stamp companies & for some reason I’ve only just got round to buying some of the Squiggly Ink Plates & Minis!  I wished I’d bought them when they were first released!

Babies!

Over on My Time To Craft the challenge is: Babies

Hi everyone! Time for a new challenge, This week’s challenge is something really cute, it’s ‘Babies’ – New baby cards, baby scrapbook pages, vintage baby images, whatever ideas you have we can’t wait to see them! You can make a Card, Tag, ATC, Skinny, Scrapbook page, Fatbook Page (4×4) Gothic Arch, Moo Mini card, Skinny, Inchie or Altered art.”

I’ve been meaning to do a scrapbook page for each of my 2 children with their date of birth & their 1st photo.  I’ve finally had the incentive to do them!

I know they’re very basic but I didn’t want to go overboard with them.  I used 2 papers from DCWV, 2 fabric flowers in blue & pink, ribbon in blue & pink & brads.  Myself & my husband are pleased with them so I suppose that’s all that really matters.

Oh and I apologise about the quality of my daughters photo – our camera decided to play silly beggars & reformatted itself about 3 hours after having her & we lost all the photos we’d got of her after she’d been born.  Luckily my best friend (who along with my husband was my birthing partner too) was there & she’d taken this photo on her phone.

Saturday’s Workout – Make it Embossed

Over on Saturday’s Workout the challenge is to Make it Embossed.

“Nun aber zum dieswöchigen Challenge-Thema: MAKE IT EMBOSSED.

—–

So, now it´s up to our new challenge-motto: MAKE IT EMBOSSED ! We would like to see your creations made by using the technique embossing. This could be made by hand (with a pen and a stencil) or by using embossing powder or with embossing tools (like cuttlebug aso).

Take your embossing-stuff and show us your creations – we are highly expecting your art works this week too…”

For this ATC I’ve used my favourite Paperbag Studio stamp.  I’ved stamped it onto Vellum using Black Staz-On.  Using a lilac marvy le plume pen I coloured the daisy on the back of the vellum.  I then dry embossed the daisy.  I used some DCWV paper for the background of the ATC & I then attached the Vellum to this using Brads & Ribbon.

Wednesday Stamper – Insects

This is the first time I’ve taken part in Wednesday Stampers Challenge.  This one is on “Insects“.

Because of spring there are bugs and insects all over, so great to see all that new life. Please show us in your artwork what you feel when you think of insects. For some of you it will be an easy challenge, for some it will be hard one. Please don’t forget to at least use one stamp.

Wegen des Frühlings gibt’s überall Käfer und Insekten; total schön, all das neue Leben zu sehen. Bitte zeige uns in Deiner Kreation was Du fühlst, wenn Du an Insekten denkst.

This is my take on the “Insects” theme.  I used Alcohol Inks for the background ATC & on the vellum.  I then stamped the image from Paperbag Studios onto both the background & the vellum.  I cut out the butterfly from the vellum & attached just the body to the ATC & folded the wings up so they have a 3D effect, which unfortunately you can’t really tell from the scan!

Triangle ATCs

I was intrigued by a swap on a group I belonged to that requested we make 3 ATCs into the shape of a triangle & decorate as we wanted but each Triangle ATC must have a jigsaw piece on it.

These are my efforts.  All three used Paperbag Studios stamps.  I also used my trusty VersaMagic ink pads in Key Lime, Tea Leaves & Hint of Pesto.

  • For the Butterfly one I gold embossed the edges, placed a German Scrap Flower in the bottom left & used Glossy Accents on the jigsaw piece.
  • For the Daisy Girl, I stamped her image onto a piece of vellum, coloured in her daisy with a yellow stardust Sakura pen, Crackle Accents on the jigsaw piece & placed another German Scrap flower on the bottom right.
  • For the last one,  I used a length of cream fibre crossed over at the front & used Matt Accents on the jigsaw piece & again attached another German Scrap flower.

I hope whoever gets my Triangle ATCs in the swap will be happy with them – I’m quite pleased with them.

BTW – can anyone tell I’m in a “Green” colour mood at the moment?

Created By Hand – Go Green!

Over on Created By Hand they’ve set the challenge as “Go Green”

Tuesday April 22 is Earth Day, so we’re going green!

“Create art using GREEN! Use watercolours, inks, sprays, washes, stamp ink, rubber stamps, dye inks, paints, papers, collage images, eyelets, ribbons, etc… ! Create a card, ATC, tag, altered art, 4 x 4, inchie, skinny (3 x 5 inches)… whatever you fancy.”

So here’s my attempt.  I’ve not taken part in their challenges before but today I finally bit the bullet & had a go.  I used VersaMagic (Key Lime, Tea Leaves & Hint of Pesto) to make the background.  Masked off the corners & stamped my main image.  I then masked her off & stamped different designs for each of the corners.  I also stamped the main image again onto a different piece of card (coloured with the same VersaMagics) and cut the image out.  I attached 2 pieces of forest green organza ribbon & stuck the image over the top to hide the ribbon ends!

I hope it’s ok!  It’s more “green” than I realised – the topper card was recycled out of the card that came out of the centre of one my husband’s new work shirts!

Birthday Card

My brother’s girlfriend is 21 on Sunday & I’m seeing her tomorrow so here’s the card I made for her Birthday.  It’s using one of my favourite stamps from Paperbag Studios which has been stamped onto Vellum & I then dry embossed the daisy in her hair.  The Paper I’ve used is another Hot Off The Press one!  Lots in my paper drawer!  I’m quite pleased with this card, I hope she likes it.

Anniversary Cards

I made this card for my Mum & Step Dad’s Wedding Anniversary.  I used DCWV Papers & one of the free stamps from Craft Stamper.

I made this card for my Brother & Sister-in-law’s Wedding Anniversary.  I used HOTP’s Classic Range & another stamp that came free with Craft Stamper.

Children Inchies

These are my inchies for Joanne’s April Inchie Swap based on the theme “Children” set by Jo.

Many thanks to Joanne for the link for the Free digital download for a wonderful collage sheet from which my images came from.

For these inchies, I used a couple of pages from a free book I received on “50 Greatest Books for Children” as the background.  3 were coloured with Milled Lavender & Dusty Concord Distress Inks, another 3 were coloured with Tattered Rose Distress Inks & the last 3 were coloured with VersaMagic Key Lime, Tea Leaves & Hint of Pesto.  I cut out some flowers from some German scrap & stuck one on each Inchie.

I hope they’re ok & whoever gets one, likes them.
